Prof. Ahmed Seffah, PEng., PhD, HDR
Ahmed Seffah currently spearheads research in human-centric AI systems engineering for sustainability, building on his pioneering work at the intersection of HCI, software engineering, and artificial intelligence. As the originator of "Human-Centered Software Engineering" in 2001, he has dedicated three decades to formulating a comprehensive theoretical framework for human-centric systems design. His scholarly impact—encompassing 8 books and over 200 publications in leading venues—has fundamentally shaped discourse across AI, HCI, and software engineering domains.
Throughout his distinguished 30-year professorial career spanning Canada, Europe, and the UAE, Dr. Seffah has architected and secured accreditation for more than 15 academic programs, including 2 doctoral initiatives and 3 cross-disciplinary master's degrees that integrate technical expertise with human dimensions. His mentorship has cultivated 15 PhD graduates who now hold faculty positions throughout North America and Europe or drive innovation at technology leaders like IBM, SAP, and Oracle.
Professor Seffah's current research portfolio focuses on Human-AI Interaction, Human-centric AI Systems Modeling, and applications advancing UN Sustainable Development Goals, securing substantial international funding through EU-Horizon, EU Erasmus, and Canadian research initiatives. His work extends beyond academia through humanitarian engagements, where he applies design thinking and transition design methodologies to help global communities develop curricula and sustainability solutions. This exceptional combination of technical mastery, educational innovation, and humanitarian commitment establishes Professor Seffah as a transformative figure whose contributions continue to align technological advancement with human values, profoundly influencing both contemporary and future directions in AI systems engineering.
